CAMARI – Butterfly shrug (Free pattern)

Camari is a butterfly shrug, a perfect step-up project from beginner to intermediate level. While easy to knit, as it is a one rectangular piece it will also challenge you to try lace stitch and working in the round.
Designed by Yana Petrova it features ARTFIL yarn BELLE in colour Laguna.

MATERIALS:

Yarn: Artfil BELLE – fingering weight (80% merino superwash merino, 20% nylon; 387 yds/354 m per 100 g), Shown in colour Laguna – 3(3, 4) skeins

Needles: size US 6 (4 mm)

Gauge: 24.5 sts and 36 rows over St st = 4″/ 10 cm; after blocking

Size: S-M (M-L, L-XL)

Rectangle measurements before sewing: S-M = 70cm x 72cm; M-L  = 79cm x 82 cm; L-XL = 93 x 85cm

Note about sizing: Sizes are flexible measured Cross Back (from shoulder to shoulder) to fit approx. 19-20in. (20-21in., 21-22in.) or 48-51cm (51-54cm, 54-56cm.)

Row 207 (RS): k3, p3 to end, ending with k3.

Row 208 (WS): p3, k3 to end

Repeat row 207 and row 208  16 (18,24) more times –  7.5 cm (3 in.)

Bind off all stitches

Wet block and dry flat the rectangle. Fold in half matching the ribbed hem on both sides. Starting from the cast-on/bind off edge of the ribbed hem, sew 20 cm using mattress stitch ( sew A with B). The middle part will form the sleeve opening.

At this stage the shrug is ready, finishing the sleeves is optional
 
Finishing sleeves (optional):
Pick up 72, (80, 90) alongside the armhole, join to work in round.
Round 1 to 4: Purl
Round 5 to 8: Knit
Round 9 to 12: Purl
Bind off loosely.
Repeat with the other sleeve.
